Since the mid-1960s, Georg Feuerstein has dedicated himself to faithfully represent the vast spiritual heritage of Yoga in the West through numerous publications and educational programs.
After Georg’s relocation to Canada in 2004, Traditional Yoga Studies was registered by Brenda Feuerstein as a Canadian company in order to provide a framework for his continuing work of benefiting Western Yoga practitioners.
TYS has an impressive record of serving Yoga practitioners around the world, especially through its distance learning program and its widely used manual on Yoga history and philosophy for Yoga teacher training programs.
Our Position:
1. Yoga is a profound spiritual tradition that is eminently relevant to today’s social and environmental crisis because of its moral values on the one side and its physical practices and unparalleled spiritual disciplines on the other.
2. Our primary mission is to promote a better understanding of the heritage of Yoga in its diverse forms through publications, audiorecordings, distance learning courses, and a comprehensive website.
3. Our specific interest is in promoting traditional Yoga to Yoga teachers in order to raise the general standard of Yoga teaching in the West and thereby help preserve Yoga’s precious heritage extending to 5,000 years.
