Encyclopedia of Homeopathy by Lockie

Andrew Lockie. Encyclopedia of Homeopathy: The Definite Home Reference Guide to Homeopathic Remedies and Treatments for Common Ailments. New York: DK Publishing, 2006. Large-size hardcover, 336 pages.

This beautifully designed and heavily illustrated reference work outlines 322 remedies, which amounts to about 15 percent of the total number of homeopathic substances in use today.

After a short historical overview and introduction to homeopathic principles and methods of preparation, the author jumps straight into his practical presentation of homeopathy’s materia medica, which takes up c. 140 pages.

Each of the 34 major plant remedies, 34 major mineral remedies, and 12 major animal remedies is given a full page. The minor remedies are dealt with in shorter segments, covering their common names, origin, background, preparation and symptom profile.

In a separate part, serious ailments are described with their conventional and homeopathic treatments, organized according to organ systems. There is also a very valuable 60-page part on self-help, which is followed by a reference guide to all the remedies included in this volume.

A remarkable accomplishment and a most helpful compilation for those wishing to avail themselves of the world’s finest healing system.
